Windows Server 2008 with RDP and password expired?

So you got a nice dedicated server with Win2008 and you forgot to disable password expiration on next log on.

System prompts you to enter a new password and when you do so the following message appears:

“configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied”

Now what? You can’t change an expired password via RDP, microsoft says.

Well you can, by simply specifying localhost/username on the username prompt on the Remote Desktop Client connection screen (if needed you should click “Use Another Account”).
